Board Bios

President, Robin Sackevich - Robin’s love of animals started early, when she picked out cows and horses during family drives in Vermont, and then started horseback riding at 10 and teaching riding at 17. Her love of animals grew into a B.S. in Animal Science at Michigan State. With no previous dog experience she began to work for a local show/breeding kennel in the Lansing area, where she was surrounded by and learned from the dogs and from her employers. She has also worked at a boarding kennel, a doggy daycare, and been a pet sitting since 2004. Robin believes that no animal caretaker knows everything and that, like any good student, she is always learning. She hopes to pass on any knowledge she has gained about animals to members of FGLDP while also picking up new tips from our members (and their dogs). Her dog is Belle, a black and brindle Scottie/Corgi/Labrador.

Vice President, Dee King - Dee King is a retired recovery room R.N. with a lifelong interest in all types of animals particularly dogs.  In the 1970-1990's she bred and showed English Cocker Spaniels in conformation and obedience under the Kraushaus and Westwind kennel names. Dee also taught conformation classes through the Obedience Training Club of Greater Lansing and was a former President of the Heart of Michigan English Cocker Spaniel Club. There has been very little time in her adult life that she has been without a dog in her family and therefore from direct experience and reading many animal behavior books has learned to recognize normal dog behavior and is a believer in dog obedience for all dogs. In 2000 she got a Schipperke and he really needed to run and have a place to exercise. It wasn't long after that she became involved with the Friends of Greater Lansing Dog Park in the interest of getting him a off leash place to play. Morgan (the Schipperke) now has a buddy Quinn an American Eskimo Dog and they go to the Soldan park a few times a week and drop in at the Lowell Dog Park on some weekends. Dee is gone a lot in the summer but agreed to step in as Vice-President when Robin was elected to the presidents position in January 2009. Dee lives on the west side. This is her first term as an officer. Dee will be leaving the board at the end of her term in January.

Treasurer and Acting Secretary, Linda Edgar - Linda is a life long dog lover, and resident of the greater Lansing area, living for the last 15 years in Lansing’s wonderful Eastside Neighborhood. She and her current canine companion Buddy are big fans of the Soldan Dog Park. Linda would like to be more involved in supporting, maintaining, promoting, and improving Soldan Dog Park, as well as work to develop other dog parks for area residents and their dogs to enjoy. She has worked in retail and food service for many years, handling cash, paying vendors, and balancing register receipts at shift’s end. She is looking forward to this opportunity to serve her community by running for Treasurer of the Friends of the Greater Lansing Dog Parks.

This will be Linda's first term as treasurer. Due to the resignation of the elected secretary, Linda is acting as secretary until the board elections in January.
