Nov. 19, 2010--Read this message from FGLDP President JoAnne Huls explaining the erosion-control fencing recently installed at Soldan Dog Park, her request for your input in implementation of the new electronic gate card system to be installed at the park by early in 2011, and an invitation to attend the Nov. 23, 2010 FGLDP board meeting. Here's her message:

November 19, 2010

Thank you to everyone for your continued patience as we work through technology

issues so that we can provide you with the most up to date information on the Soldan’s

dog park and happenings with the Friends group. Thank you SO much to Dee King,

Ellen Sullivan and Linda for your dedication and commitment to figuring out the website.

As you know, there have been a few changes at the park, and there will be some more

changes in 2011. The recently added four foot fence was constructed by the City of

Lansing to prevent erosion around the drainage pipe. While it is not appealing to look

at, we are told that it was necessary to address the rapidly eroding shoreline around the

system. The much anticipated pass system is on track, but will not be in place before

the first of the year. There are few administrative and logistical issues that need to be

addressed.

And here’s where you can be most helpful! Please share with us what you think we

should address with the city and county as this new pass system is administered. We

have heard from a number of people about multiple passes for a single family, multiple

dog families, visitor passes, what happens when you lose your pass, how do you appeal

a decision if your pass has been revoked, student rates, etc. We have received a broad

range of input, but want to make sure that your concerns are being addressed right from

the beginning!

Please know that before the system goes “online” there will be a Q&A that will describe

some of these questions . . . and some issues we will address as they arise. We do not

have an exact timeline for the implementation of the system, but we expect that it will be

some time after the first of the year.

As always, we know that there are many people that use the Soldan’s dog park, and

we continue to be grateful to the Soldan family for their generous contribution to one of

the things that makes Lansing great. We will be in need of board members for next

year, and continued involvement from people that would like to see the dog park remain

a jewel. There is a meeting next Tuesday, November 23rd at 7:00 pm. The meeting will

be at Foster Community Center in Lansing. We would love to see you there.

Thanks

JoAnne Huls,

President FGLDP

Oct. 25, 2010-- Ingham County Parks and Recreation Commission considers key card access system and maintenance agreement with City of Lansing for Soldan Dog Park

Many of you know that although Soldan Dog Park is owned by the City of Lansing , it is adjacent to Hawk Island Park , an Ingham County Park , and much of the day-to-day maintenance has been done by Ingham County Parks (with the exception of the recent erosion-prevention fencing installed by the City. For many years the City and County have worked together on the dog park.  For some time, the City and County have been negotiating a lease what would formally allow Ingham County to operate portions of Scott Woods Park , the River Trail and Soldan Dog Park . Read Draft #5 of the proposed agreement as presented at the October 25, 2010 Ingham County Parks Commission meeting here.
